MADDOCK, Henry William

Henry William Maddock was born on the 14th of September 1866 to John Goad Maddock and Mary Jane Budge. He was born in London but baptised in Devon where both his parents had been born. Henry was the eldest of five children one of whom died at the age of eight. Both John and Henry gave their occupation as ‘Plasterer’. In February 1888 Henry married Kate Ann Hussey, daughter of a Policeman, both giving an address of Mozart Street, Kilburn. A daughter, Edith May, was born before Kate died in 1890 at the age of thirty-two.

In the 1891 census Henry was living with his parents in Kensington and with three year old Edith. He remarried in 1897 to Mary Ann Cole and two more children were born, Ethel May in 1900 and William Edward in 1902. They were living in Felixstowe Road in 1901 and Denmark Road in 1911 in the Kilburn/Willesden area of London.

Henry William Maddock enlisted in the 18th London Regiment, but it is not known when he did so or what is career was in that regiment. By October 1918 he was with the 458th Protection Company of the Royal Defence Corps in Ireland. Presumably returning home on leave, he travelled on RMS Leinster on the 10th of October. He did not survive the sinking nor was his body recovered. His name is recorded on the Hollybrook Memorial in Southampton.
